Why water-change arithmetic cannot tell you when to redose

What the model actually says
In a simple, evenly mixed model, replacing 25% of the water with untreated water leaves 75% of the original dissolved amount. Two such replacements leave 0.75 × 0.75 = 56.25%, not 50%. This calculation assumes complete mixing and ignores every removal or change other than the specified water replacement.
Why the remaining fraction is not a dose instruction
The model does not establish what a test would measure or what the manufacturer requires next. It does not account for interactions with materials, other removal processes or a product’s individual instructions. A precise percentage is only a result of the assumptions. It cannot certify that a treatment is absent, that livestock may be returned or that another product may be introduced.
Keep the calculation and decision separate
In your log, record the water volume removed, the replacement water and the time. Keep any measured test result with its unit and test method in a separate entry.
